FAQ's

Simply put, PayMate is money on your fingertips. It links your mobile phone to your existing bank account or credit card thereby giving you the unmatched convenience and security of paying anywhere, anytime. Once registered for this free service, you can pay for online purchases, shopping bills, monthly utility bills and much more simply with your mobile. In fact you can even buy things like flight tickets, movie tickets and other cool stuff on your mobile itself. All payments are authorized by you with a secure 4-digit PIN thereby ensuring complete control and security.

You need nothing new. We believe in keeping it simple so your existing mobile phone can be linked to your current credit card or bank account (with any of our partner banks).

Absolutely not. Your existing mobile handset, even if it’s the most basic one can be used to make payments via PayMate. It does not require any SIM change, application download or GPRS connectivity.

Not at all. PayMate works across all operators (GSM or CDMA) so you needn’t get a new connection.

Not at all. You can link your mobile to your existing credit card, bank account or debit card (with any of our banking partners). If you wish to transact from a pre-paid balance you can get yourself a GiftMate voucher.

None whatsoever! It is an absolutely free service so you need not pay a paisa extra when paying via PayMate. And for a change you need not worry about any hidden charges since we do not levy any one-time service charges or usage fee. Who says best things in life don’t come for free?!

As secure as the valuables in the safety vault. PayMate is a PCI DSS 1.2 certified company which means our data security standards are among the highest in the world. We comply with the most stringent global banking systems and processes for data storage and transaction processing. You will also find security certificate logos on our registration pages to confirm this. So be rest assured that your data is as absolutely secure at every step.

We have a 2 step registration specifically to prevent misuse of credit card information. It would have been much simpler to register any mobile number with the specified card details instantly but we have chosen to do a double verification in your interest so that only the rightful owner of the card can register his/her mobile. Hence, customers are asked re-enter details that appear on the credit card statement. Even linking of bank account or debit card happens only post verification by ATM Pin or equivalent.

When you register for PayMate with your credit card, you have a transaction limit of Rs 2,000 which can be increased once you re- validate your registration details with us.  Thereafter, you can make payments up to Rs 10,000 per transaction.

The re-validation is done by entering some details that appear on your credit  card statement post registration. While the 2-step process may seem a little inconvenient, we have built this for your own safety. By asking you to revalidate the information on your credit card statement, we ensure that only the rightful owner of the credit card is being registering. So it’s a very small price to pay for a big security advantage.

PayMate transactions are quick, easy and safe. When you wish to pay via mobile at a PayMate merchant (online or offline) all you have to do is share your mobile number. You will instantly receive an automatic IVR call-back from PayMate confirming the transaction amount and asking for authorization with your PIN. Once you enter the PIN on your phone your payment will be processed and within just a few seconds you will get a response confirming the transaction status. On successful authorization your account which is linked will be debited and you will receive an SMS as well confirming the details. All this within seconds! Do it to believe it. We recommend you do a real transaction to get an actual feel of how smooth and quick the process is.

You have a 4-digit PIN (chosen by you when you register) which is known only to you and nobody else. Since every payment is authorized with the PIN it ensures that you are in complete control of every transaction. Also, the PIN you punch on your mobile happens over an auto-IVR call-back and there is no manual intervention whatsoever. This is the same level of security as your T-PIN and other IVR systems used by banks across the world. Click here for a step by step transaction flow demo

IVR stands for Interactive Voice Response. This is an automatic system generated call which comes on your mobile and guides you through the transaction. It is the same as the recorded voice prompts you hear when you call your or mobile operator a phone-banking service.

Not a chance! You are the only person who knows your PIN. Even people at PayMate do not have access to your PIN as it is stored in our systems in an encrypted format. Which means no one except the secure systems can verify your PIN. However, you must make sure that you do not disclose your PIN to anyone and not save it on your mobile either. Choose a PIN that you can remember and others cannot figure, its common sense right?

It happens sooner than you can imagine. Once the transaction is initiated, you would receive an automatic IVR call-back within a few seconds asking for payment confirmation with your PIN. On entering your PIN we process the payment via your bank within 8-10 seconds and give you a confirmation instantly. Click here for a step by step transaction flow demo

It’s simple. What PayMate does is links your mobile to your credit card or bank account as preferred by you and allows you to authorize payments with a PIN. Hence, every time you make a payment via mobile it gets charged to whichever account or card you have linked to your mobile and will appear in the credit card or bank statement. Remember, the transaction is successful only if you have the sufficient funds or credit limit in your account.

Once you enter the PIN, we instantly process the payment via your bank and check for availability of funds/ credit limit. Within a few seconds the payment status is made known to you over the IVR response. On successful payment you even receive an SMS from PayMate confirming the charge with a transaction ID for your reference.

Absolutely. Since it’s your credit card account which is being charged at the time of transacting you earn your reward points via the bank as usual. You are also eligible for the same special offers and benefits that your credit card company offers. That doesn’t change whether you swipe the card or pay via mobile.

Sure. Just follow the same registration process and thereafter every time you wish to transact via PayMate, you will be given the option to choose which account you would like to pay from. So if you wish to pay for different transactions with different accounts, PayMate makes it possible.

We understand that sometimes this could happen so all you have to do is get in touch with our customer service executives, authenticate yourself and request for your PIN to be reset. You would get an automatic system generated PIN instantly which you can once again change to something you can remember.  Click here for our customer support contact details.

Most of us lose our mobile phone sometime or the other. But you needn’t worry because no one will be able to misuse it for making a payment without knowing your PIN. Also, if you have informed your service provider to disable your connection that will automatically ensure that you mobile can be used for transacting. But do make it a point to inform PayMate as well so that we can have your account blocked for further security. Click here for our customer support contact details

Any charge backs or disputes will be dealt by your bank in the same manner as they are currently. You need to contact your bank which will initiate the process and after the necessary checks will inform PayMate if the charges need to be maintained or reversed. It is exactly the same way as your current credit card charge back/refund procedure.

No. PayMate does not share any of your financial information with the merchant where you are transacting. The entire transaction happens between you, your bank and PayMate. The merchant simple knows whether the payment was successful or declined.
